Weekend Roundup: Canada Day long weekend edition
Welcome to the long weekend!
Welcome to the long weekend!
It’s the weekend — and with the ongoing state of emergency here in Ottawa, we can bet what everyone needs is an opportunity to rest and recalibrate. Here are some suggestions for how you can go about doing so.
Let’s kick off this year’s #Support613 Gift Guide with a selection of gifts to warm and brighten the recipient’s home, whether they live downtown, in the burbs, or out in the country.
If you’re anything like me, there are always a bunch of tiny bits and bobs that would be perfect to gift, but not worth the effort of wrapping up and putting under the tree. Conveniently, for those items, we have stockings. It’s always a joy to watch someone pull a bunch of tiny surprises from a giant sock.
We gave three friends $30 each and this one rule: their holiday shopping has to happen at local, independent stores.
More than 40 businesses in Wellington West and Hintonburg took part in the 2019 Holiday Window Display Contest.
Anyone got a time machine? You’ll need it to fit in all the great events this weekend, featuring a jammed packed Saturday!
Welcome to March, the time of year when it’s safest to bring an umbrella along with your toque and sunglasses. Just because the weather can’t make up it’s mind doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Plenty of options this weekend, so enjoy!
Spring is on its way and it seems like everyone has something planned for this weekend. So without further ado, let’s get to it Ottawa!

In true entrepreneurial fashion, the retail business “celebrated” by revamping the store and using their holiday to build new shelves to hold even more Ottawa-crafted goods. Gareth Davies, the company’s founder, came to Ottawa via his […]
After years making and selling clever t-shirts through his company Winged Beasts Outfitters, Prentice’s craft is moving off of our chests and onto our walls.

“It brings you back to when you’re like six or seven,” says Brenda Dunn, local artist and perpetual inner child. She’s sitting in Ministry of Coffee on Wellington Street West, gesturing towards a small clay figure. His name is Bean, and he is the guardian of this establishment. Bean is one of a crew of […]
This past Friday, as part of Hintonburg Happening, Maker House Co. hosted an evening of music, ghost stories, s’mores, and beers. Ming was there. For more on Ming, check out his website, radio show and Instagram.
Hintonburg Happening is a nine day event that celebrates Wellington West’s community of artists and businesses. Not only is this neighbourhood home to great brewers and craft-focused watering holes, it’s also the home of Brew Donkey, Ottawa’s favourite brewery tour provider. Owner Brad Campeau, is using this HH festival to launch a new educational series that focuses on […]
