Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire?

We made it! The May long weekend always feels like the official beginning of great weather and summer plans… though last week sure felt like the middle of July. Check out all the great activities this weekend and stay safe!

Welcome to tulip season, friends! It seems like the whole city has come alive in the last week, with the magnolias exploding off their branches and the tulips suddenly coming out of nowhere. We are solidly heading towards a warm, welcoming spring.

Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire?

We are one work week closer to real spring now, friends. Can you feel it? While the blossoms are slower to arrive than last year, we are counting our blessings and watching closely for the next perfect moment to hit a patio! This weekend is one for the books, with the launch of undercurrents—back in person!—and the Ottawa Grassroots Festival bringing new musical voices to downtown. The NAC is hitting it out of the park, as usual, and there is some great eco-conscious ultra-local shopping to do to round out the perfect spring weekend.

Welcome, April! Live music seems to be the theme for this weekend, so pick a show or two and hit a cool local bar or restaurant afterwards for some cheer. If you’d rather stay in, we have some livestream options for you. 2022 could be the summer of your own homegrown mushrooms, if that floats your boat.

Spring is in the air, some mandates are dropping, and events are back in full force. However, just because the province has dropped a lot of mandates, still be sure to check with venues and events before going as many are still supporting mask-wearing and more. Safety first!

Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire?

With daylight savings bringing an extra hour of sunshine to our wakeful time and the promise of light at the end of our workday, we hope this puts a little spring in your step ahead of the official change in seasons next weekend. There is plenty to do with that bit of extra pep this weekend, so without further ado, we give you: the Weekend Roundup.

As more cultural spaces and events come back to life, keep your ear to the ground about adjustments to COVID restrictions and make informed decisions about the businesses and venues that you want to support! The clocks move forward next weekend, so embrace this last weekend of “winter” and take back the little parts of our city that bring you joy.

There are lots of ways to help support struggling businesses downtown — even if you don’t have money to order gift certificates or products with. Go to your favourite business’ social media and like, save, and share their posts to help spread the word. If you can support financially, don’t forget to check ahead if businesses are open and operating fully before heading down!

It’s the weekend — and with the ongoing state of emergency here in Ottawa, we can bet what everyone needs is an opportunity to rest and recalibrate. Here are some suggestions for how you can go about doing so.
