#Support613 Gift Guide: Home and lifestyle

By Apartment613 on November 30, 2021

Welcome to Part 1 of Apartment613’s 2021 local holiday gift guide! Visit apt613.ca/#Support613 often for new suggestions.

Let’s kick off this year’s gift guide series with a selection of gifts to warm and brighten the recipient’s home, whether they live downtown, in the burbs, or out in the country.

nproduct
via Etsy

Ottawa’s nproduct is an Etsy shop run by husband-and-wife team Crys and Dom, and they make “slow goods” inspired by vintage and the ’80s. Their gift items are bound to speak to Ottawans both born and adopted. Coasters, key chains, bookmarks, shirts, and more await you. But act fast — their store closing sale is on now!

Apt613 picks: For the francophone who loves to make lists or jot down ideas, this set of pencils emblazoned with a fun and slangy phrase (roughly translated as “Aw, come on now”) is bound to make them smile every time they pick one up to write with. And this t-shirt really captures the heart of what it feels like to live here sometimes.  Laser-engraved wood map coasters featuring many of Ottawa’s beloved neighbourhoods would also make fab gifts.

Maker House
987 Wellington St. W

Maker House in Hintonburg is a perennial fave of Apt613 for its unique and fun handmade items, from furniture to dish cloths. They’ve even got a “Wish Book” on their website filled with fantastic gift ideas.

Apt613 picks: Got a cat lover on your list who also loves jewelry and needs a place to stash it? This minimalist ceramic Kitty Ears ring dish by local makers Clay Pigeon Design is iconic and adorable. Or treat the caffeine lover on your list with these coffee and chai beeswax candles made in Tweed, Ontario by Lucky Clover candles.

Local macramé makers
via Etsy and Instagram

Welcome back to the ’70s and early ’80s, when macrame was all the rage the last time! Local makers are knotting up a storm, creating gorgeous modern and throwback pieces that look great in any home. (Bonus: Cannot be dropped and broken while en route to your loved one.)

Apt613 picks: Two local macramé makers are offering everything from wall hangings to plant holders, placemats and coasters, or table runners. Find Minerva Macrame on Instagram and MacrAmé Ottawa on Etsy.

Treasures in Clay
via Ottawa Artisans

Everyone needs a gorgeous bowl or platter to serve snacks when friends or family come over. Ottawa artisan Treasures in Clay has the goods. Plates, bowls, trays, platters, jars, baking dishes… all in stunning colours and tactile shapes that are sure to delight their recipients.

Apt613 picks: We love the simplicity of the round platters, available in various colours. And these amazing flower bowls are truly eye-catching and unique conversation pieces!

The Artsy Cottage
via Ottawa Artisans

Some new and affordable graphic art for your loved one’s home will bring them some light and joy this winter. The Artsy Cottage’s punchy geometric designs and bold colours are fun and engaging to the senses, including painted wood wall art, cheerful plant pots or decorated garden stones.

Apt613 picks: The multicoloured barn quilt tree painting and the geometric sunset are both gloriously technicolour. We also love this planter painted with cats!
