Video of the Week: “Don’t Be Scared” by Asuquomo

Months before his breakthrough DIOBU album came out, Asuquomo dropped his OT RIDDIM mixtape in winter 2020. Calling back to that lowkey release, the Nigerian-born, Ottawa-based artist has just shared a new video for his OT RIDDIM track, “Don’t Be Scared.”

Directed by Asuquomo and close collaborator JustJay, the dark, trippy, avant-garde visuals are shot with a drone camera in the frozen suburbs of Ottawa, and indoors at Cinqhole (R.I.P.) in Hintonburg.

Heads up, this video footage is edited with fast jump cuts and strobe-like effects. There’s an important warning message for viewers with photosensitive epilepsy.
