Happiness Habits 613: 30 for 30 in June

Half an hour of physical activity each day for 30 days. That’s what Happiness Habits 613, a grassroots local wellness group, is promoting in June with daily free outdoor community experiences for everyone—all ages, all fitness levels—to increase physical health, mental health, and happiness.

Is walking your thing? We got ya. Maybe it’s cycling, paddling or working out? Check. Check. Check.

Since 2015, Happiness Habits has fostered community happiness through intentional, everyday actions. Happiness research tells us that 40% of our happiness stems from internal activities we can fully control, 10% is due to external factors, and 50% is from our genes. What we think, say and do impacts our well-being.

Tamara Robinson and I are back to provide the fun, the connections and the recipe for long-term happiness. All events are safe for beginners to join in and are accessible by public transportation.

June’s Happiness Habits 613 events are thematic by day:

Monday: Mindfulness hike

Tuesday: Running 4 all

Wednesday: What’s SUP paddling (powered by Ottawa SUP)

Thursday (morning): Sunrise walks

Thursday (evening): Bicycle socials

Friday: Community workout

Saturday: Saturdance

Sunday: Zunday Zumba

If you see a yellow triangle flag with a happy face on it, YOU are in a happiness zone!

The Thursday sunrise walks, Saturdance, and Zunday Zumba events are in locations with accessible washrooms nearby. Instructors/leaders will share modifications that participants can make to ensure safe and enjoyable participation.

Happiness Habits is also thrilled to promote ongoing free community fitness and wellness events throughout June, including National Health and Fitness Day and the City of Ottawa’s Full Moon Yoga on Saturday, June 3, as well as Bekane Cycles’ Father’s Day ride on Saturday, June 16. The Happiness Habits 30 for 30 Sunrise Walks free kickoff event takes place Thursday, June 1, at 7am at the Horticulture Building, Lansdowne Park. You can also drop by the Happiness Habits 613 booth at City of Om on Saturday, June 3, at Lansdowne Park.

Happiness Habits is a grassroots volunteer-led initiative that aims to increase happiness and build community in the Ottawa and Gatineau are.
