Fringe Review: Daters Gonna Date
Kate Carmanico: “I feel like I’ve seen this show before.”
Kate Carmanico: “I feel like I’ve seen this show before.”
Helen Lam: “MAL is a clown show for adults. So MAL won’t be to everyone’s taste, but there’s enough energy to carry the audience for the full hour.”
Content warning: alcoholism, substance abuse, sexual violence, and spousal abuse.
Brian Carroll: “Languedoc fills the entire stage with his performance and characters.”
Brian Carroll: “Riley Hardwick, Alex Lamarre and Lucas Caldwell have structured the play around the inherent instability of the three-hander. Alliances form between pairs of characters, only to fall apart as new information is revealed.”
Helen Lam: “The cast fully commits to portraying modern love in all its awkward glory.”
Livia Belcea: “Right off the bat, the audience understands exactly what’s in store for them as Bebe busts into dance and delivers a jaw dropping grand entrance, for which the whole audience cheered and applauded with enthusiasm. She is glowing, sparkling, and moves like she was born with high heels on.”
Brian Carroll: “Public Service Announcement: Flabbergasted is a stand-up comedy show.”
Kate Carmanico: “I found myself rooting for this first-time comedian.”
Colin Noden: “These actors/acrobats are such likable people with warm personalities. I found myself wanting them to succeed. But concern and worry get in the way of enjoyment.”
Barb Popel: “Agent Madeleine is an intriguing play about World War II. It’s based on the life of Britain’s first Muslim war heroine… and I bet you’ve never heard of her.”
Barb Popel: “Only towards the end did most of us burst out laughing. Too little, too late.”
Colin Noden: “This is a solo show, but it is not a monologue. I counted at least five different characters having conversations onstage, all coming out of one shifting body. And doing it convincingly, with tone and mannerisms.”
Barb Popel: “I suspect that an audience member’s reaction to Staying Alive depends on how much they empathize with—or fear—old people.”
Nicholas McBurney: “This is a show that will have you in stitches.”
