After a messy week, it looks like the weather will clear up just in time to enjoy the goings on this weekend. There is plenty to do around town, so get out and enjoy yourselves, folks!

The story of the Festival of Small Halls began during a supermoon weekend in August 2014, when the team behind Bluesfest brought Old Man Luedecke to perform in three small halls in Perth, Gananoque and Bloomfield. Since then, the festival has grown to 60 performances–from October through December–in 49 venues as far afield as Brockville, Kingston and Peterborough.
Because of the festival’s popularity and the size of the settings, some shows are already sold out. However, there are still many great performances available at the time of writing. Below are five of my top picks—all located within an hour (or two) of Ottawa.
Need to start planning your Halloween costume? Want to get out for some great shows? Pick up a new skill? We’ve got you covered for all that and more in this weekend’s roundup.
Neat Coffee Shop’s Shed Sessions hosts Sloan, Bedouin Soundclash, Basia Bulat, Joel Plaskett, and more great Canadian artists in upcoming concerts.
Welcome to tulip season, friends! It seems like the whole city has come alive in the last week, with the magnolias exploding off their branches and the tulips suddenly coming out of nowhere. We are solidly heading towards a warm, welcoming spring.
The Ontario Festival of Small Halls has announced a wealth of new live music shows in small communities across Eastern Ontario during the month of May. The lineup features exclusively Canadian artists, including Ashley MacIsaac, Basia Bulat, Great Lake Swimmers, Hawksley Workman, Jessica Pearson & The East Wind, Skydiggers and more.
Stage 3 is still a weird place to be so be sure to balance your mental and physical health with joyful activities while practicing distancing and relentless hand washing!
The Ontario Festival of Small Halls is finishing off the year with three concerts at the National Arts Centre.

Terry Steeves: “Having found a little covered spot to write in the downpour, I realized that some of the best shows I’d ever seen were in the rain… this had definitely been another.”
This week on Apt613 Live, Josh Lemoine interviews Cityfolk performers Dan Mangan and Marlon Williams.
This past Thursday Ottawa ears were treated to an inspiring show of sonic exploration when Daniel Lanois and Basia Bulat joined forces with the NAC orchestra under the baton of David Martin. The exclusive concert jointly produced by Ontario Scene, the NAC orchestra and NAC Presents filled Southam Hall with fans eager to hear what […]
Legendary rock producer Daniel Lanois is coming to Ottawa to perform with the NAC orchestra as part of an Ontario Scene / NAC Presents co-presentaion. And he wants you to know that this will not be one of those shows where a rock artist plays through their classic songs with an orchestra for a backing […]
