If you love outdoor dining or COVID-safer spaces, you thankfully don’t have to wait for summer patio season to start up again: Ottawa has some cozy winter patios you can enjoy right now. As well as their pleasant atmosphere, many of these spots have local brews and delicious menu items. Here are nine winter patios that are open across the city.
ByWard Market
Dubbed “the best patio ever in the winter” by a Facebook user, The Brig Pub offers a great outdoor experience with half-a-dozen heaters to keep you toasty in the chilly temperatures. This courtyard patio is covered by a canopy with beautiful greenery draping from the top. Enjoy local taps and apps like artichoke dip.

The Glebe
LOCAL Public Eatery’s patio is open during mild winter days. Staff say you can call ahead to check if it’s open and book your table. Located in the heart of Lansdowne, this restaurant + bar has a large wrap-around patio and several beers to choose from. It’s loved by patrons for having a vibrant atmosphere and friendly customer service.
Little Italy
If you love patios and Mediterranean food, then Mati is a spot you’ll want to check out. As of January 31, Mati’s heated patio will reopen to the public. Cooks specialize in crudo and charcoal, with a seafood tower as a major highlight. You can also enjoy one of their show-stopping smoked ice cocktails.
Wellington West
Joe’s Italian Kitchen on Wellington Street has an enclosed patio that can seat around 26 people. It’s kept warm with propane space heaters, but they also have blankets to ensure you stay cozy. The kitchen uses locally-sourced ingredients for its hearty pastas and wood-fired pinsas (Roman sourdough pizzas). Customers rave about the fresh ingredients, wine, and welcoming atmosphere.

Bells Corners
Kichesippi Beer Co. is just off the Trans Canada Trail and is known by locals for its large selection of local beers and delicious finger foods. Their patio is currently open for bar service, where you can enjoy the fresh air and craft brews.
Stittsville
Known for its charming atmosphere and decor, Ritual on Main Café has a partially covered patio on a wrap-around porch. Enjoy a coffee and a snack outside at one of the cafe’s two-seater bistro tables. Although the patio is not heated, staff say customers can bring their pets for company. There are vegan options as well.

Gloucester
With a semi-enclosed heated patio, Hunter’s Public House also has a fire pit to cozy up to. Foodies describe this spot as having above-average pub fare, and one reviewer says “the new cabins on the patio are like being at a ski chalet or European Christmas market.” Enjoy some Canadian brews and fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
Barrhaven
Browns Socialhouse in Barrhaven has a fully enclosed patio that can seat up to 40 people, with large windows and comfy booths. Reviewers mention the attentive service and diverse food selection. If you’re looking for a dish to try, the crispy cauliflower shareable is a crowd favourite.
Manotick
Described as a “home away from home” thanks to its quaint vibe, 692 Coffee and Bar is a south-end coffee/beer shop with a small enclosed and heated patio that can seat about eight people. Reviewers recommend the scones made with ingredients like brie cheese and Lindt chocolate. 692 also has gluten-free options to pair with its coffee.
