The city is all abuzz about President Obama’s drop-in tomorrow. If you’re a driver or a buser, watch out for road closures downtown around the Hill – and expect delays.
There are tentative plans for a rally on Parliament Hill, although it’s not clear whether security will allow it. Word has it there will be checkpoints to get onto the Hill, and backpacks may be searched – so travel lightly! This rally is planned for 10am – the masses may be disappointed, but that’s no reason not to come out.
If you’d like to avoid any uncertain plans, head on down to First Baptist Church at 140 Laurier Ave West at 1pm – there will be a rally with music, speeches, and a special appearance by slam poet Oni the Haitian Sensation.
At 2:15pm, the crowds will leave First Baptist and begin the “Yes We Span” march over the Laurier Bridge, symbolizing how the President spans cultures, countries and generations. Bridge walks like this have already taken place in over 70 cities – check out the Canadians for Obama site for more details.
