Despite June coming to an end, (along with Pride Month and the school year), I still like to think summer has yet to begin. (Though that might be because of the unpredictable weather.) These upcoming days of the sun taking centre stage in the sky and construction for our roads are ones we ought to make the most of.
A suggestion for fellow music lovers—whether you’re open to discovering new artists or enjoy specific genres, Syndicut Music presents the Syndicut Songwriter Series (say that five times fast). This monthly songwriter series will begin on Wednesday, June 28, and you can expect artists Kaspien, Kenny Hayes, and John Ian at Nan’s Parlour to show us what they’ve got in store.

For those of you who don’t know, the Songwriter Round is a Nashville-style songwriter round that allows audiences to get “up close and personal” with the songwriters. How it goes is that one round consists of a few songwriters on stage at a time, with one of them performing a song, followed by the next writer, and so on for three to four rounds. Sometimes, the writers join in with the others, adding harmonies or contributing guitar riffs. Other writers just listen—a laid-back environment for all.
Additionally, the writers often talk about the who, what, when, where, why, and hows of the songs they wrote, usually also resulting in lively stories and interactions between these artists.
Nan’s Parlour (73 Clarence St.) opens its doors to the public at 7pm, with the show starting at 7:30pm. The performance is free for anyone interested in popping by. Check Syndicut Music’s website for any updates regarding line-ups as well as dates.
