The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) is proud to announce the selected showcasing artists who will be performing during its takeover of Jet Black Weekend on Saturday, November 26.

For the past five years, Ottawa-based award-winning touring rock band Double Experience has produced their Jet Black Concert series, a yearly performance event exclusive to Ottawa where fans from all over the world gather to show love and appreciation for the band and their hometown. With the help of OMIC, the event returns this November—bigger and better than ever—with an entire day dedicated to placing a spotlight on Ottawa’s vibrant local music scene. The event will be capped off with a performance by Double Experience as part of their two-night weekend residency at Club SAW. In partnership with the band, OMIC has curated a series of panels, networking events, and a musical showcase, taking place on November 25 and 26 at Club SAW. The events will focus on a variety of topics that are integral to the success of local artists. Panels will feature diverse, internationally acclaimed panellists from all over Canada. The evening features performance showcases of three local artists.

About Moonfruits:

Living and working on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation, Ottawa-based Moonfruits–partners Kaitlin Milroy and Alex Millaire–are bilingual makers of contemporary folk music. A compelling and creative voice, Moonfruits have toured across Canada, the U.S., and Europe, weaving together song and storytelling with intimacy and theatrical flair. They transport audiences with a tender and powerful live show that elevates the stuff of everyday life. Salt, Moonfruits’ anticipated sophomore album, is a lushly orchestrated, deeply personal 12-song suite that explores what it means to live, dream, and raise a family in an era of climate change and deepening socio-economic inequality—it tells the stories of their families and the kinds of communities they hope to help build. The foundation of Moonfruits’ sound is their voices—Alex Millaire’s gritty baritone and Kaitlin Milroy’s choral-trained mezzo. Accompanied by guitar and banjo, and bolstered by a roving cast of double bass, drums, strings, glockenspiel, kalimba, organ, and samples, the band has developed a reputation for disarming even the most skeptical of choristers.

About Kaspien:

Kaspien is an upcoming indie musician and soundtrack composer with a passion for storytelling. Kaspien’s first EP, DIVER, was written and produced as part of his Master’s thesis exploring the effectiveness of music when promoting activist causes. Currently, Kaspien is focusing on the production of a collection of songs written over the pandemic, this time exploring stories from lived experiences.

Pay-what-you-can tickets for the showcase portion of Jet Black Weekend on Saturday, November 26 are now available online. Doors open at 7pm. Hosted by bilingual comedian Tim Riel, the live showcase will take place after an afternoon of FREE in-person panels, workshops, and networking.
