Local Twitter feeds lit up this summer when @wslychu came across open data indicating a new Farm Boy store on its way to the Rideau Centre. The news is now official. After much speculation, Farm Boy’s PR sent an email announcing the Eastern-Ontario company’s 24th location is slated to open late fall.
An entrance at Rideau Street and Sussex Drive will open to an 8,000 square foot fresh food market. Co-CEO Jeff York describes it as Farm Boy’s second “urban concept” store – the first being the Farm Boy which opened in Westboro last year.
“We received many requests from residents in the city’s downtown core to open a similar Farm Boy in their area,” adds York.
What’s in store at the Rideau Centre may give the shopping mall’s food court dining hall a run for its money. In keeping with the supermarket’s signature salad and hot food bars, Farm Boy’s new Rideau Street location is expected to serve a mix of grab-and-go meals made from scratch plus new made-to-order options (such as fresh sushi and pizzas). Unique to this location will be a new flat-top grill at the front of the store serving “pop-up style gourmet food.”

Heads up: press material mentions this new location will create 120 part-time and full-time positions. Farm Boy will be hosting a job fair downtown on September 29 and 30.
