It’s been two years since fiction fans in Canada’s capital united to mingle over their interests (and we all know why). Now, Ottawa Comiccon returns from September 9-11, 2022 at the EY Centre. We can all come together to surround ourselves with our love for comic books, sci-fi, horror, anime, video games, and all things entertainment.

Over three days, fans will meet some of their favourite fantasy fiction artists and film and TV personalities, pose for pictures, buy original art, and even get to say hello to their idols. The event will be packed with various activities, including celebrity autographs, photo-ops, and more than 50 panels and workshops ranging from 300-1,500 attendees. Not only that, there are conference sessions to discuss any topic your typical fan can think of, from comics to costumes, gaming to hit shows.

This year Ottawa Comiccon welcomes celebrity guests from every field you can think of, including voice actors Maurice LaMarche and Rob Paulsen (Pinky & The Brain, Animaniacs, Futurama, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); Denise Crosby (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Trekkies, The Walking Dead); Tomer Capone (The Boys, When Heroes Fly); Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Stranger Things, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Saw) and Georges St-Pierre (UFC two-division champion, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). Stay tuned for upcoming announcements of new guests and activities by visiting their website.

If you consider yourself a collector, Ottawa Comiccon is the place to go! Hundreds of specialized retailers will be there to present their creations, including vintage comics, rare toys, artwork, costumes, and jewellery. You are practically assured to find yourself some incredible items that will bring a collecting quest to completion. Bring your wallet!

You can even go to the event dressed as your favourite characters from comics, manga, anime, games, and films, and pose for pictures with other fans. (Of course, this goes without saying: be sure to ask any cosplayers if they’re okay with taking a photo with you!) The costume club members of Capital City Garrison 501st Legion, the Rebel Alliance, and the Doctor Who Society of Canada will also be there, showing off their on-point and incredible outfits as they stride through a crowd that’ll no doubt be full of awe. The cosplay madness will reach a fever pitch on Saturday, September 10, at the Masquerade, an epic costume competition where the fiercest cosplayers around will face off onstage, and judges from around the globe and hundreds of fans will see if they’ve got what it takes to win.

There’s a little bit of everything for everyone here. Extroverts can expand their social circles by meeting new people and taking photos with cosplayers. If you’re not into that, there’s plenty of artwork, costumes, merch and more for you to purchase and add to your collection. Regardless, the commonality among the diverse people who will attend is their passion for what awaits them at Comiccon. After a hectic couple of years behind us, isn’t that something worth sharing?
