Ottawa’s newest gallery space occupies the showroom of a former tire retailer at the corner of Woodroffe and Carling. Loen Design doesn’t shy away from the location’s retail past though, the huge sign that once advertised tires, now sports a banana on top and mysterious sayings underneath that change regularly.
The new gallery inside Loen Design is called, appropriately enough — Salon Des Bananes.
Loen Design has been around since 2019 and are now opening their gallery space in the front room that once sold all-season tires. On the evening of Friday, Nov. 15 they are hosting a vernissage, and then on Nov. 16 and 17, there are open viewing hours of the art exhibition.

The vernissage on the 15th promises to be a catered ‘swanky affair’ with live music where you will have a chance to meet the artists and sip a beverage or two.
There are four local artists whose work will be exhibited at the show: Rich Loen, Lori Mirabelli, Maciek Kozlowski, and Dave Rheaume.

As the owner of the gallery, Rich Loen’s work will set the tone. From what I’ve seen so far of Rich’s work you can expect quirky and abstract. Lori Mirabelli is a local artist who creates abstract paintings. Maciek Kozlowski is a well-known local mixed media artist. Dave Rheaume lives in Toronto and creates vintage scenes.
The home of Salon Des Bananes is Loen Design at 2207 Carling Ave. The vernissage runs from 6 pm to 9 pm on Nov. 15 and tickets are available here for $50. The free viewings are on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17 from 11 am to 5 pm and reservations can be made here.
