It looks like we are in for a mild February weekend and it couldn’t be better timing, as there is a ton of fun stuff going on outdoors this weekend. There is also plenty happening inside, for you indoor cats, as well.
All Weekend
We are fortunate to be able to enjoy another winter weekend skating on the Canal during Winterlude this year. In addition to some great ice conditions and delicious Beavertails, there are also a bunch of free and paid activities to celebrate the season – including a sound and light show in Confederation Park, ice sculpture carving on Sparks Street, a zipline at Jacques Cartier Park, and much more. Ottawa Fringe’s Undercurrents festival begins this Thursday at Arts Court. The schedule for this weekend’s three pieces of theatre can be found here. There is also an opening reception for the festival being held on Thursday night.

Classical music fans will want to make the trip to Chelsea for the third annual Festival Collines en Musique. This three-day chamber music festival takes place at La Fab sur Mill and showcases Canada’s best classical musicians in an intimate setting.
Carleton University’s Sock ‘N’ Buskin Theatre Company is putting on Neil Simon’s Rumours this weekend with shows Thursday – Sunday at 7:30 each evening. Tickets are available online starting at $15 for students.
Elevator Theatre Company opened their newest show Late Company on Wednesday, with shows at the Gladstone Theatre running until February 15th. The dramatic exploration of grief was written by local playwright, actor and director Jordan Tannahill. Tickets start at $25.

Thursday
Spend a free evening at the Museum of Nature, the Museum of History, or the Gallery of Canada. Their permanent galleries are all free to visit after 5pm every Thursday.
Synth heads will want to hop over to House of Targ this Thursday eve, for Switched on Synths. This month’s edition features performances by Nick Schofield, Sam Aleums, and Eimhin Rooney.
Friday
Get an early start on the Valentine’s Day celebrations with CAKE: Sugar Heart Disco, this Friday night at Club SAW. Tickets to this dance party, brought to you by DJ K’N4FEH, are a cool $20.
This Friday, celebrate Winter Pride in the Byward Market. There you will find Proudly-Made, a market of queer-owned businesses. There will also be a Drag on Ice: Skating with the Stars show, where you can enjoy a drag performance while skating and listening to beats by DJ Del Pilar.
Saturday
Are you wanting to spread a little love this Valentine’s Day, but have yet to find that perfect little something? You may find just what you are looking for at Not Your Typical Valentine’s Market at the Warehouse at Zibi, 28 Booth Street, this Saturday from 3pm to 8pm.

For those of you with littles, Tall Stories is bringing The Gruffalo’s Child, a great piece of children’s theatre, to the main stage of Meridian Theatres this Saturday. There is both an early and late afternoon showtime, with a craft and storytime taking place before the earlier performance.

Head over to the Aberdeen Pavilion this Sunday for the Lansdowne Farmers’ Market, from 10am to 3pm. Here you will find all kinds of delicious goodies – all of which are grown or made within 100kms of the city limits.
Check out The Spirit of Rasputin’s Mojo Banjo : A History of the Banjo on Sunday at 8pm. Loosely threading along the timelines of the history of the banjo, Ottawa’s folk music society with Teilhard Frost and Jason Mercer will combine a variety of banjos, jaw harp, fiddle and song for an enchanting night of music. Tickets are $25 for the show at the Westboro Masonic Hall.
