Last weekend may have brought us an extra hour of sleep, but we are now playing in dark mode for the foreseeable future, so don’t squander away those precious daytime hours and enjoy yourself this weekend. If you’re worried that you won’t be able to make the most of what little daytime we have this time of year, don’t worry; there is also plenty to do after darkness falls.
All Weekend
The Ottawa Canadian Film Festival is in its eighth year at the beautiful Bytowne Cinema this Thursday through Saturday. This year’s lineup of Canadian cinema boasts fourteen short films and two feature-length films. Their screening schedule and synopses are both available on their website, so check out the lineup and plan accordingly.
Follow the University of Ottawa Theatre Club down the rabbit hole in their adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at the Gladstone Theatre this weekend. This fantastical piece of theatre runs an hour and a half in length, with an intermission, and has both evening showtimes and a discounted Saturday matinee.
This weekend showcases back-to-back Back to Black tributes to Amy Winehouse by Renée Landry and the Cool at Irene’s Pub. Tickets are sold out for Friday night (but there is a waitlist) and are nearly certain to sell out on Saturday night, so be sure to nab one of the sought after tickets now or risk missing out.

The Lion King is in its final weekend at the NAC. This is your final chance to see “one of the most breathtaking and beloved productions ever to grace the stage” before it’s gone.
For something entirely different, also in its final weekend at the NAC, is Snow in Midsummer. This thrilling adaptation of a Chinese folktale “juxtaposes redemption against revenge and delves into the depths of injustice and trauma to explore the lengths people will go to for love”. Part showcase and part sale, 260 Fingers is being held at the Glebe Community Centre this weekend. Twenty-six esteemed clay artists and potters from Ontario and Quebec will exhibit their works and you are able to purchase your favourites.
Thursday
This Thursday night Possible Worlds presents the third installment of their new graphic art making and music series, Artifacts. This installment focuses on printmaking on paper and fabric using stamping and stencil techniques, which you will learn alongside beats by DJs Jason Skilz and Glory Hull.
This Thursday at Ten Toes Coffee House and Laundry some talented local DJs will be spinning vinyl in support of CKCU’s funding drive. Join Chris International, Jas Nasty, Heavy Ben, Lamb Fatale, and Ska Jeff for an evening of great music for a great cause.

Local sports fans can cheer on our Ottawa 67’s this Friday as they take on the Brampton Steelheads at the TD Place Arena at Lansdowne.
Saturday
Cirque à la Carte brings us an intimate and immersive circus performance featuring everything from “daring aerialists and contortionists to jugglers and hand balancers” this Saturday. The Richcraft Theatre at the Shenkman Arts Centre is transformed into a big top for an all ages afternoon show and an evening show for mature audiences.
Sunday
The Ottawa chamber choir Seventeen Voyces presents The Unknown Soldier, a musical Remembrance Day tribute, taking place at St. Matthew’s Church in the Glebe this Sunday afternoon. The performance features music by Ottawa composers Andrew Ager and Matthew Larkin as well as Bach and Mozart.

Join your fellow creatives for a Crafter’s Movie Afternoon at the Mayfair this Sunday. The theatre will be screening Mamma Mia and the lights will be dimmed enough to enjoy the movie, but bright enough to be able to work on whatever creative venture your heart desires.
