Please don’t ask me how it’s the end of September, but here we are. Get out there and enjoy just a small snippet of all the great things our city has to offer!

All Weekend

Vpop will be at Next Door on Saturday and Sunday with local resellers, artists and makers.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival is on with lots to see.

Local cinemas the Mayfair and Bytowne have wonderful films on this weekend.

The First Métis Man of Odessa plays at the NAC until Sunday.

Elevator Theatre Company’s striking production of Spring Awakening plays at LabO until Sunday.

Thursday

The Cinq à sept ByWard Concert Series continues with local and touring musicians presenting free shows.

While we have to wait a bit longer for an arena at Lebreton Flats, the Sens are back against Buffalo out at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The Hintonburg Night Market is on again at Urban Art Collective with local eats, treats and all things handmade.

Friday

Capital Pop-Up Cinema presents The Goonies on Sparks St. – grab a chair and blanket (or rent one from them!) and enjoy a great movie under the stars.

House of TARG is hosting a Dance Mix 2009 Millennial Pop Dance Party with DJs Phuzz and Miami and the iconic MUCHDANCE compilation tunes.

The NAC’s Indigenous Theatre program is hosting a Beaded Earring Workshop with supplies and instructions provided. If that’s not quite your thing, there’s also a #ReconcileThis Art Build (also on Saturday).

Saturday

The Ottawa Public Library’s Elmvale branch is hosting a session on Restoring Old Photos where you can learn how to digitize your photos and touch them up with free photo editing software.

Coinciding with Canada’s Forest Week and National Tree Day, Canadensis Botanical Garden Society hosts its 4th annual Fall Celebration. Garden and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to come together to experience nature in all its Fall splendour at the Canadensis Garden site at the Central Experimental Farm. Everyone is welcome to participate in free activities, learning experiences, art exhibits, live music, and an official tree-planting ceremony of twelve native trees.

As a mom, it can be hard to find a place to go out and dance, but not anymore! DanceMomsOttawa’s fall lineup of dance parties is out and the first event takes place at the One Up Cocktail Pub.

The playoff-bound, attendance-record-setting, second-place Atlético Ottawa are hosting one of their last home games before the playoffs and the weather is looking perfect for some afternoon footie! This match against Halifax will also be a special game for the Odawa Native Friendship Centre.

Bonus Monday – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day

Regardless of if you have the day off work or not, this is an excellent opportunity to learn some more and take action to support our Indigenous siblings. There will be special programming on many radio and television stations, but there will also be a 90-minute commemorative gathering on Parliament Hill at 3 pm.

Seven of the Ottawa Public Library branches will be open with special programming.
