It is still summer in the 613, and this weekend has lots to offer in terms of great food, exciting sports, cool learning opportunities, and lots of art of course! Make the most of the weekend, rain or shine.
All Weekend
It is fair season! The Almonte Fair is happening all weekend with Canada’s oldest wooden covered grandstand. You can catch magic shows, a chilli cook-off, a midway, horse and cattle shows, and a fire show, of all things. Tickets are $30 daily.
On Saturday and Sunday Arteast Ottawa will be having its second Fine Arts Studio Tour featuring 30 members of Arteast presenting their artworks in their home studios. The artists will be showing works in various mediums from oil and acrylic to watercolour, drawings, photography, and more. This event encourages the public to see where the artists work, and a chance to purchase original pieces.
Cirque du Soleil is still in town with their show Echo, at La Place des Festivals ZIBI in Gatineau and there are tickets available to all shows this weekend. The beautiful show is accompanied by a live band, and you can read all about it here.

The fifth annual AfroFestival is taking pace at Mooney’s Bay rain or shine. Tickets are still available online for either Saturday or Sunday. Enjoy live music, traditional dancers, DJs, artisans, African food vendors, and a chance to support small businesses.
From Friday to Sunday Ottawa Comiccon is at the EY Centre, and there are still passes left for the geeks in your life! There will be book signings, meet and greets, as well as cosplay meetups and talks. The Hobbits will all be there, including Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as well as a pile of stars from Marvel, Battlestar Galactica and Walking Dead.
AeroGatineauOttawa is taking to the skies in Gatineau over the weekend, highlighting famous flying groups like the Snowbirds, Red Arrows, and Thunderbirds, as well as tons of other aircraft and pilots if planes are your thing! Tickets are only available online, and full day passes for Saturday start at $54.99.
Thursday
The Ottawa Titans have made the post season after an absolute corker of a Wild Card game on the road earlier this week. Thursday night is the only home game of the best of 3 Frontier League East Division Series against first place Quebec Capitales. First pitch is at 6:30pm, and you can expect a raucous crowd of passionate fans in red and black. This could be your last chance to see the Titans this summer, so get your tickets and join us!

On Thursday and Friday Ottawa Dance Directive Launches its 14th Season with Fluid Resilience by Shannon Cooney inspired by the teachings of biologist, Allyson Quinlan. The shows take place at Arts Court at 7:30pm both nights, and tickets are available online.
Friday
Capital Pop-Up Cinema is back in Westboro on Friday with a free screening of childhood classic Matilda at the Churchill Senior Recreation Centre. The movie starts at dusk, (approximately 8pm) so bring your chair and a picnic to enjoy!
Vegans Who Snack is back for a second round this summer at the Parkdale Market on Friday. The huge foodie event will run from 5-9pm with 70 vendors including tons of food, artisans, small businesses, and community organizations. Wear comfortable shoes and get ready to stuff yourself with goodness.

Saturday
Get your learn on with Research Open House and Bug Day at the Ottawa Central Experimental Farm. This free all-ages event will give you a chance to meet with scientists and learn about the research that is happening on the Central Experimental Farm and beyond. From the crops that we depend on for food, to the environment that they grow in, and lots of cool bugs.
BeechFest is happening on Saturday from 3-9pm in Beechwood. From St Charles St. to Marier Ave., expect the streets to be closed to cars and full of food, music, dancing, and community groups. It is free to attend of course!

In a rare Saturday afternoon game, the Ottawa RedBlacks are taking on the Toronto Argonauts at 1pm. Celebrate Big Joe’s 10th birthday, and hopefully a big win by the boys on the field.

Sunday
Heritage Ottawa Walking Tours are a great way to learn more about the city, and on Sunday you can join the tour of Westboro. The tour explores the heart of the former Westboro village over nearly 200 years. Highlights include All Saints Chapel, the former Nepean Town Hall, the Westboro War Memorial, and Maplelawn mansion and walled garden. Tickets are $10 for members, and $25 for non-members.
Centretown Flea Outdoor Market runs again this Sunday in the Seoul Dog parking lot at 154 O’Connor St. You can expect vintage treasures, comic books, retro toys, and unique crafts. The event is free to attend.
The Beechwood Cemetery presents the Annual Historical Tour as a living library, this year they are focussing on environmental leaders. Learn firsthand about incredible people and how they shaped history performed by the Ottawa School of Theatre. The tour begins at 4pm and is free to attend.
