We’re so close to sunny days and patios, but winter is giving it one last go this weekend. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies for Monday’s solar eclipse! Read on for some recommendations for this weekend, plus a bonus feature on eclipse events.
All Weekend
A John Prine Tribute event is taking place at Irene’s Pub on back to back events on Friday and Saturday with a swath of local talent (Chris Landry, Haley Wolk, Stuart Rutherford, Trevor Lubin and many more) donating their time and talent. All proceeds will be donated to Somerset West Community Health Centre. Tickets are $20 and are available online.

On Thursday and Friday, Korean choreographer Jeon Misook’s Bow will be at the National Arts Centre. According to the NAC’s website, “with Bow, Jeon Misook Dance Company investigates the relationship between the bower and the person being bowed to, and how this tradition differs from one meeting to another, questioning the sincerity of the gesture that society has agreed to recognize as a mark of respect.”

Friday
On Fridays in April, Urban Art Collective is hosting a series of art as therapy workshops.

The first Saturday of each month is a 60s rock n’ soul dance party at LIVE on Elgin.
As part of SCI_ART: Art, Science, and Technology Symposium, the public is invited to the unveiling of Zasaan by Barry Ace, an outdoor sculptural work commissioned to mark SAW’s 50th anniversary. The NAC is hosting a beaded earring workshop with Stephanie Peltier of Deliastelle Designs. The workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced beaders aged 16 and up. Tickets are available online.

The Latin American Festival is hosting a tamal festival on Sunday from 12-7pm with free admission to the the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne.
The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and Carleton University Music Students will present a mini-concert this Sunday at 3:30pm. Tickets are available online.
Bonus: Solar Eclipse events
No matter where you’re watching from, be sure to follow safety precautions and only view the sun through eclipse glasses. Ottawa Public Health has more information on how to stay safe. While Ottawa isn’t in line for a total eclipse, there are a number of special events taking place in town. The partial eclipse will be begin just after 2pm, with the maximum eclipse at 3:25pm.
Carleton University’s Department of Physics is hosting a public event on Sunday April 7 to talk about the physics of an eclipse. On Monday, they’ll be hosting a solar eclipse viewing event.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is hosting a viewing event on Monday from 2-4pm. Eclipse glasses will be provided along with museum admission while supplies last.
The Canada Aviation and Space Museum will have special programming all day and will have eclipse glasses as well as solar filtered binoculars.
For something a bit different, head to Nordik Spa where they’ll be providing eclipse glasses, themed cocktails and mocktails, and exclusive events.
