This week’s snowfall is great news for all the outdoor enthusiasts who have been (im)patiently waiting for winter. Read on for some ideas on how to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors, plus some suggestions for those looking to stay cozy.

Tired of cooking and want to try somewhere new? Best Bites in Ottawa has got you covered!

Interested in learning about animal tracks in the snow? Head to Gatineau Park for a free event offered on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the winter where you’ll take part in a guided snowshoe through the park. Don’t have your own snowshoes? No problem—you can borrow a pair!

The Museum of History has a new interactive exhibit to brighten up these dark winter nights. Sound and light travel from one end to the other of Iceberg, a series of illuminated metal arches that each make a sound.

Have you heard of the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library? They won December’s Awesome Ottawa award to support their free lending library of outdoor gear. Don’t miss their winter pop-up at the Overbrook Community Centre—the perfect location for anyone looking to get out on the Rideau Winter Trail or one of Ottawa’s many other winter trails.

Thursday

Attention foodies: The National Arts Centre is putting on a special event this Thursday with Chef Paul Toussaint, where you’ll be able to taste his signature Haitian flavour. Enjoy a five-course menu created collaboratively with NAC executive chef Kenton Leier. Tickets are available online.

Celebrate the return of SensChirp Beer at Beyond the Pale. The Sens vs Sabre game will be on the screens, and there’ll be prizes up for grabs. Reserve your free spot online as space is limited.

It’s Bingo Thursday at Broadhead Brewery. Free to play!

Friday

The Ottawa Swing Dance Society will have live music by the Stan Clark Orchestra this Friday. Beginner lessons start at 8pm, with social dancing from 9-11:30pm.

Enjoy a night of bachata with Bachata Obsession: Dancers of all levels are welcome, and a partner is not needed to join the event.

Art House is hosting a 90’s night with throwback snacks and music. Looking for something a bit more retro? House of TARG is throwing an 80’s dance party.

The outdoor skating rink at Rideau Hall opens this Saturday. The free rink is open to the public (weather permitting) Monday-Friday from 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12-8:30pm.

Enjoy a winter concert of Siaka Diabaté and Raphael Weinroth-Browne with Mars Aspen at Club SAW.

Ottawa Free Fitness is hosting their first ever dodgeball tournament powered by Décathlon. The event is free, but register to save your spot!

The Little Penguin skating trail is just 25 minutes from downtown Ottawa at the Touraine Golf Club. Bring your headlamp for an evening skate this Saturday and enjoy live music while you glide!

House of TARG transports you back to the 90s this weekend with the TARG Dance Mix ’97 dance party. Over at Irene’s Pub, enjoy a night of disco.

Sunday

Meet fellow artists at the Ottawa Art Gallery’s artist meetup. The event is free, just bring your own supplies.
