This week marks the return of one of my favourite summer events: the Grands Feux du Casino Lac-Leamy. And while this means we’re heading towards the end of summer, there’s still plenty to see and do over the long weekend!
All Weekend
Help recover artifacts at the Leamy Lake Park public archaeological digs.
Odyssey Theatre is back in Strathcona Park this summer with the classic comedy The Miser. Learn all about this year’s performance here.

Enjoy a free outdoor concert as part of the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition’s City Sounds Live 2023. This Thursday, check out Danielle Allard, Melissa Lamm, and Jasen Colson at Minto Park (102 Lewis Street in Centretown).
Lansdowne Movie Night is showing The Super Mario Bros. Movie beginning at dusk. In case of rain, the movie will be shown in the Aberdeen Pavilion.
Parks Canada’s Learn-to-Camp team will be at the Museum of Nature from 5-8pm each Thursday throughout the summer. Learn about camping, national parks, historic sites, and the great outdoors!
The Merry Dairy’s ice cream truck has been popping up in postal codes across town. Keep an eye on their social media for the latest locations and time. You can find them Thursday in Metcalfe (K0A) or Gloucester (K1X).
The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa will be at the William Street Plaza in the ByWard Market at 7pm.

Capital Pop-Up Cinema is showing The Neverending Story at Beechwood Cemetery. Bring your own chair or rent one for $5.
Head to Dundonald Park for Music in the Park each Friday. This week, Cassie Noble will perform from 6:30-8:30pm. After the show, head across the street to Art House for DJ in the Driveway.
Saturday
Kickstart your weekend with a morning of yoga at Tavern at the Gallery. Pre-registration is required and costs $20 to save your spot.
Under the Stars is a month of shows in the Club SAW courtyard. This weekend, enjoy Preloved, Bonobo Backlash, Sleep Late (EP release), and Everett Rama. Tickets are $15 per show or $40 for a festival pass. Check out the event page for upcoming shows.
Capital Beatles are bringing Beatlemania to Ottawa! More specifically, to Overflow Brewing this Saturday at 7pm. Tickets are available online.
Each month throughout the summer, Run Ottawa hosts a 5k run at the Experimental Farm with part of registration fees going to a local cause. This month, 50% of fees are going to the BrainSTRONG Network.

The Grands Feux du Casino Lac-Leamy are back this summer with shows on Wednesday and Saturday from August 2–19. In addition to the fireworks, the festival site at the Museum of History has plenty to keep you busy.

This weekend is jam-packed with events happening all weekend. If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday or Monday, scroll back up for ideas, enjoy a movie in one of the city’s local theatres, work on your application to OMIC’s Encore Ottawa Season 4, take a dip at the newly re-opened NCC River House, or enjoy a car-free bike/walk/run/rollerblade/unicycle/etc. along one of the NCC parkways.
