Welcome to the last Weekend Roundup of 2022! Whether you’re staying in or heading out to ring in the new year, we here at Apt613 hope you enjoyed your holidays with family and friends. The main attraction this weekend is none other than New Year’s Eve, so to honour the event, we’ve divided the roundup into NYE and everything else, so there is something for everyone in the 613 this weekend!

From everyone at Apt613, especially the Weekend Rounduppers, we hope your holidays have been safe, and joyful—however you’ve decided to spend them! As we usher in 2023, let’s do it with intention, patience, and a little bit of creativity. Happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve

Happy New Year’s Eve! After 6pm, enjoy no-charge OC Transpo service (all the way til 4am). The O-train is scheduled to run until 2am. There are plenty of events happening around town, including a party at the Montgomery Scotch Lounge, the Scottish Society of Ottawa’s Hogman-eh! at Lansdowne, a celebration at CRAFT Ottawa, a destination wedding-themed party at Beyond the Pale Brewery, Ashes to Rubies sober party Booch in the New Year, New Year’s Eve Comedy Night at the Shenkman Arts Centre, Prohibition themed party with live jazz and dinner at Speakeasy Tapas Lounge and more!

The thought of putting on anything other than stretchy pants got you down? Don’t feel like trekking out into the cold and snow? Here are some ideas to ring in 2023 at home:

Everything else

Experience the Magic of Lights at Wesley Clover Parks until January 7.

Let someone else do the driving as you visit local breweries! Brew Donkey has a series of holiday week tours available from December 27-31.

Get every last drop of that Christmas magic at the Chateau Laurier’s Elf’s Pub (open until January 1), a Christmas themed pop-up bar, or with a holiday high tea (until January 5). While there, check out the Trees of Hope for CHEO.

Start and end the year in your red and black – The Ottawa 67s are hosting the Kingston Frontenacs for a rare Friday afternoon game at 2pm, and the Ottawa Senators are home on Sunday January 1st, against the Buffalo Sabres.

The National Gallery of Canada is open on Sunday, and so is the Museum of History, if you’re interested in getting in a little culture after a night of excess!

On Sunday (or that bonus holiday Monday), you can get up close and personal with Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Exhibition at the EY Centre.

Looking for a new book to ring in the new year? Ottawa Public Library reveals its most popular books of 2022 in this post. And while you’re at your local library, did you know they loan out musical instruments and passes to the local museums and galleries?

Enjoying a staycation this holiday season? Head to the ByTowne or the Mayfair and enjoy one of these December movie picks.

The Broadway hit Come From Away is coming to Ottawa through January 8. Tickets are available online.

The winter season in Gatineau launched December 18, and with it a world of possibilities for fans of the great outdoors! There are 22 km of new trails added to Gatineau Park’s network, including 10 km for snowshoers and snow bikers on the service lane of the Gatineau Parkway from Trail 67 to P5. Enjoy day shelters, outdoor fire pits, and dog friendly trails (check the list!). Check out the National Capital Commission’s site for more info.

Gatineau Park isn’t the only option if you’re looking to hit the cross-country trails. There are a number of urban ski trails, including the Rideau Winter Trail, Britannia Winter Trail, Ottawa West Winter Trail, and the Kichi Sibi Winter Trail.
