The Vanier HUB is a project supported by the Vanier BIA and Vanier Community Services Centre that transforms a parking lot at Montreal Road and Marier Avenue into a community and arts space during the summer and fall months. They beautified the space with an incredible new mural, and for the past several years they’ve hosted community-building activities like Orange Shirt Day, the Inuit Olympics, pop-up skate parks, movie nights, concerts featuring local musicians, maker fairs, and so much more. Over 10,000 people have attended HUB events since its inception.
Now, all that hard work has been recognized by the International Downtown Association, which recently awarded the Vanier BIA its Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for its work related to the HUB. This award acknowledges an excellent response to an urban place management challenge.
Nathalie Carrier, Executive Director of the Vanier BIA, says, “We are especially flattered that we won this award based on creating a safe and inclusive space on our main street, where our businesses and our community members get to experience all the vibrant cultures that make up the rich fabric of Vanier.”
On Oct. 11, the HUB hosted a party to celebrate the award and share the good news with their community. Check out some photos of the event above. And while the HUB is winding down for the season, they’ll be back next July with more inclusive, positive, and just plain fun events for everyone to enjoy!
The Vanier HUB is located at the intersection at Montreal Road and Marier Avenue. An event calendar can be found on their website.
