In April, to celebrate National Poetry Month in Canada, we invited Apt613 readers to contribute their original poetry for consideration in the 2023 edition of our community poetry chapbook. The editors are pleased to share this year’s finished product: Plants, Animals, and Humans.

We chose this theme because all three types of living things are endlessly inspiring and full of wonder. We are grateful to everyone courageous enough to submit their poems to us, whether or not they were selected for publication. Writing poetry, as with the creation of any form of art, is an act of hope and defiance, and all of the authors deserve our respect and admiration.

We hope the words of the poets featured in this year’s chapbook inspire you to look closely at the plants, animals, and humans around you. Each one has value, meaning, and even beauty if you look at it in the right way.

The 2023 Apt613 Community Poetry Chapbook was funded in part by the City of Ottawa. The 2020 and 2022 editions of the Apt613 community poetry chapbook will be re-released later this month in new editions, so watch this space.
