In the spirit of inspiring conversation about local poets and poetry in Ottawa during National Poetry Month in April, Apartment613 invited its readers and writers to submit their original poems for publication on the blog. The call for submissions sparked the interest of nearly 25 local poets (!!!) whose original poems make up Apt613’s second-ever collection. We published the first chapbook in 2020 and took a break in 2021.
This year, we chose to focus on hope. Established artists and folks just starting out sent in their work, spanning all kinds of genres and many styles, which we then organized into a loose structure of People, Places, and Things, with hope as the overarching theme. A team of Apt613 editors made the selection, and the book was laid out and illustrated by Ottawa designer Steve St. Pierre. We read about joy and love, grief and loss, and every poem touched something deep in our hearts.
We’re so excited to finally share this collection of new works from local poets, and we hope you find something in the book that inspires and moves you. Please download freely, enjoy, and share with your poetry-loving friends!
