Based in La Pêche QC, Subtrash draws on the “political energy and fervour of second wave California punk.” In less than a year since their formation, they’ve been heading shows and have released Six Acts of Sickness, their debut EP.

Doc Parent (vocals), Pat Vaz (bass), James Healey (guitar), and Nic Mal (drums) produce music that “reflects the weird and mass disturbances of our time.” SLC Punkcast described their first single “Sweet Relief” as “sharp social commentary…satire…vicious.” The band says that it’s “equal parts frustration and catharsis.”

In this Talking Albums episode, Subtrash talks about their music, debut release and some special albums.

Check out their Instagram and bandcamp.

Talking Albums is a series created by John McDonald, now in collaboration with Apartment613, where musicians share six albums that shaped their lives and creative journeys — from first records to timeless favourites. Born during lockdown as a way to stay connected through music, the series has since grown into a video project featuring artists from everywhere. For Apartment613, the spotlight is on Ottawa-region musicians: you’ll find their stories and sounds on Apt613’s YouTube channel, celebrating local talent, community, and the music that brings us together. Musicians who would like to participate can find more information at talkingalbums.ca.
