Kentucky is the solo musical project of Almonte singer-songwriter Jordan Holman.

Originally from Alberta, Jordan has had “a rollercoaster journey” spanning two decades across Canada, the USA, and the UK as the frontman for several bands. Along the way, he found himself strung out and nearly dead from hardcore drug addiction, but thanks to “the love of many, a few miracles, and the transcendent power of music,” he survived.

Now armed with a “second chance and a flood of songs,” Jordan has “come back to life as Kentucky.” Through acoustic rock and indie folk, he tells his life story. He seeks to “restore the elusive enchantment that once adorned music, reminding us that art can transcend time and place, whispering universal truths with elegance.”

His debut solo album as Kentucky, Second Chance Music was released earlier this year.

In this Talking Albums episode, Kentucky talks about some special albums.

Talking Albums is a series created by John McDonald, now in collaboration with Apartment613, where musicians share six albums that shaped their lives and creative journeys — from first records to timeless favourites. Born during lockdown as a way to stay connected through music, the series has since grown into a video project featuring artists from everywhere. For Apartment613, the spotlight is on Ottawa-region musicians: you’ll find their stories and sounds on Apt613’s YouTube channel, celebrating local talent, community, and the music that brings us together. Musicians who would like to participate can find more information at talkingalbums.ca
