Get ready to add an extra spoonful of sugar to your day! Mary Poppins has blown onto the stage at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe and launches Orpheus Musical Theatre’s 2023-2024 musical season. Based on the books by P.L Travers, as well as the Disney film, Mary Poppins tells the story of the Banks family and their young children Jane and Michael in 1910 England who—after chasing away nanny after nanny—get a bit more than they bargained for. Mary Poppins arrives and brings with her a bit of magic and adventure, leaving a lasting impact not only on the Banks family but every person she comes in contact with (audiences included).

This production will no doubt have a lasting effect on audiences night after night! A bright, family-friendly show that will leave you feeling uplifted—not to mention humming along. The production value, including costuming, staging, and acting, are at the top tier level we have come to know and love from Orpheus Musical Theatre. In this particular production, they’ve perfectly crafted moments of Poppins magic that left the audience delighted and applauding mid-scene.
Mary Poppins, played by Sheena Turcotte, lit up the stage alongside her partner in crime Brendan Finnerty as Bert, playing the perfect narrator to carry the audience through the show. Jet Kearns and John Iziomon bring sass and warmth in their portrayals as Jane and Michael Banks and Julie Heath and Jack Smith had the audience constantly laughing as the staff in the Banks’ home.
If you are a fan of the Disney film and have not seen the stage musical before, you will not be disappointed. It brings the same cheeky and loveable energy as the film and includes all your favourite songs like “Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.”
Grab your tickets so you can watch Mary Poppins fly in and save the day before she disappears!
