Hungry Eyes: where a culinary experience meets a cinematic delight. The Ottawa Art Gallery’s (OAG) new experiential film series fundraiser opens this weekend, with proceeds going to the gallery to keep admission free.

The OAG’s “Hungry Eyes” is a unique cinematic experience designed to immerse attendees in nostalgic cult classics, while transforming the audience into participants by engaging the senses through a multi-course menu that creatively incorporates the foods and beverages that are referenced in each movie.

With an inspired menu thoughtfully prepared by the expert culinary team at Norca Restaurant & Bar (Le Germain Hotel Ottawa), foodies and film lovers alike can prepare to be taken on an epicurean adventure, where you will savour the same tastes and treasured moments as some of your most beloved film characters.

The first film playing is Julie & Julia starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. The 2009 classic tackles the art of French Cooking from Julia Child’s famous cookbook. The accompanying menu has film time references for viewers and includes dishes like a cobb salad, beef bourguignon (a comforting winter-time classic), chocolate cream pie, and a French 75 cocktail.

The second film is It’s a Wonderful Life with James Stewart and Donna Reed. The iconic 1946 film is a Christmas classic. The accompanying menu features a Yorkshire pudding, a chicken galantine, and a chocolate tart with cranberry mimosa cocktail.

Each ticket, priced at $145, includes movie admission, an inspired 3-course dinner, two craft beverage pairings, popcorn, and a chance to win some exciting door prizes. Plus, you can take pride in knowing that all proceeds support FREE public programs and exhibitions at the OAG.

Which film are you seeing? Or… are you going to see both?!

Tickets, full menus, and more information are available here. Both films are showing on December 10, 14, 17, 19, and 21.
