Ottawa’s most hardcore chamber folk trio, Musk Ox, is reuniting for their first concert since 2020. On Saturday, January 20, at Carleton University’s Kailash Mital Theatre, Musk Ox will take the stage with a performance featuring new music from their critically acclaimed new album, Inheritance, in its entirety, alongside highlights from their catalogue spanning more than 15 years.
On their latest release, Musk Ox explore new heights, delivering an instrumental ode to the “past, present, and future.” This third full-length album weaves natural folk intimacy with classically-trained precision, post-rock intensity, and progressive metal attitude.
Now featuring the accomplished violinist Erik Johnson-Scherger as a new member, the band’s new lineup including Raphael Weinroth-Browne (cello) and Nathanaël Larochette (guitar) promises to add an exciting dimension to their live performance.
Don’t miss the chance to witness Musk Ox’s mastery live. Given their tour history, it’s likely they will take off to festivals in Europe and the United States before they book another hometown show.
Doors open at 7pm, with ambient artist Nick Schofield opening the night at 7:30pm and Musk Ox taking the stage at 8:15pm.
Musk Ox is presenting a vinyl release concert at the Kailash Mital Theatre (1125 Colonel By Dr. on the Carleton University campus) on Saturday, January 20. Doors open at 7pm. General admission tickets are $30 via Eventbrite.
