Girls+ Rock Ottawa and Apartment613 are pleased to announce their partnership on a new workshop, Music Journalism 101. This eight-week course will provide training and mentorship for aspiring music journalists from marginalized communities; with the goal of increasing representation in local music journalism.
Music Journalism 101 will provide up to twenty participants with the foundations of music journalism. Each week will focus on different elements of writing, giving participants the tools and confidence to write colourful reviews, conduct great interviews, take their own photos, write and pitch their next piece. Graduates will have the opportunity to become regular contributors to Apt613 and the Girls+ Rock Ottawa blog. They will be actively supported and mentored by experienced writers and editors who will help graduates build their writing portfolio and experience.
This workshop will be taught by Adella Khan, former Managing Editor of Ottawa Beat, an online and print music publication, as well as a member of the City of Ottawa’s Music Strategy Task Force. Adella is a graduate of Carleton University’s renowned School of Journalism.
More information on the course and registration can be found at girlsrockottawa.com.
