For its upcoming 2023-2024 season, Kanata Theatre offers a varied selection of plays for our entertainment:
Glorious! is a 1940s comedy based upon the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, aka the First Lady of the Sliding Scale. She warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. This play can be seen from September 20-30, 2023—an unforgettable way to start the new season!
Twelfth Night is your classic Shakespearean love triangle: Orsino is in love with Olivia, but she has rejected his advances due to mourning her dead brother. Again, very classic, very romantic. Chivalry ain’t dead! Come out from November 8-18, 2023 to catch this iconic play!
If you’ve heard of or seen The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress may sound familiar. This 2023 holiday show is inspired by the classic tale and given a fun twist. This musical version is ideal family entertainment for the holiday season. (Note: Once Upon a Mattress is not part of their season subscription package, but patrons can purchase tickets at a discounted price until October 1.) The show runs from December 27-30, 2023.

Mauritius – When her mother dies after an expensive illness and a lifetime of bad choices, young Jackie is left with a mountain of debt. One glimmer of hope: a stamp collection, potentially valuable, is among her assets. Trouble brews and the game is on in this dark, edgy suspenseful tour de force. Catch its major plot twists on February 7-17, 2024.
Save a date between March 27 and April 6, 2024, to catch Brighton Beach Memoirs. Set in–you guessed it–the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, New York, this coming-of-age comedy takes place in September 1937, during the Great Depression. A strange combination of words, for sure, but all the more reason to check it out and get some answers.
