Here we go again! After a three-year hiatus, a Company of Fools is back, hosting a Mamma Mia sing-a-long at the Mayfair theatre to boost Ottawans’ spirits.
On Sunday, March 12, the Mayfair audience will be transported to the warm, sunny Grecian island of Kalokairi through the power of Foolish magic (and the Mamma Mia DVD they keep in their office). Give yourself over to the unabashed joy of belting out all your favourite ABBA songs and be washed in the cinematic perfection of the universe’s most iconic movie musical. Dance the afternoon away in a sequin-laden fantasyland once thought only conceivable in dreams. So come one and come all, where we can all be the Dancing Queen! Voulez-vous couchez avec les Fools?
The Fools are also awarding prizes for best dressed (get those sequins ready) and best spirit, so come dressed to the nines in ’70s ABBA chic.
On top of having the time of your life belting ABBA songs, this event is also for a good cause! Ottawa’s favourite theatre company, a Company of Fools, is hosting this event as a fundraiser. It became an annual event prior to the pandemic and is finally back by popular demand.

Every summer, the Fools produce a Torchlight Shakespeare-in-the-Park tour that brings a professional production of one of Shakespeare’s greatest hits to 40 different parks across Ottawa. All of their performances are by donation and no tickets are required. The BFFs have enjoyed plenty of Fools shows over the years!
This year, the Fools are fundraising for something extra special: in the Fall, they are bringing their summer show to 10 high schools across Ottawa. Students beginning to study Shakespeare in their English and drama classes will have the opportunity to see Shakespeare live on stage instead of just reading it off the page. So while you’re singing your heart out and cheering for Meryl Streep on the big screen, you’ll also have the internal satisfaction of knowing you’re contributing towards arts-based educational experiences for Ottawa youth.
Whether you’re a theatre lover, Shakespeare nerd, ABBA fan, looking for a fun outing with the kids, or trying to impress a date with your love of Sweden’s greatest cultural export, this event has something for you! Just be sure to get to the Mayfair early so you have plenty of time to grab some popcorn. And don’t forget your sequins!!
A Company of Fools’ sing-a-long Mamma Mia takes place Sunday, March 12 at the Mayfair Theatre (1074 Bank St). Doors open at 2:15pm, with the screening at 2:45pm and prizes presented after the movie.
