The second night of free concerts at the Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragonboat Festival kicked off for the early crowd with The Gladsome Gentlemen—Ottawa’s “happiest bluegrass band.” The band played a number of bluegrass standards as well as some originals, featuring spot-on harmonies and prodigious playing.
The second act was local singer/songwriter Alana Sterling, who delivered an absolutely stunning set, impressing the crowd on guitar, piano and with outstanding vocal acrobatics while delivering a message of positivity and loving who you are.
With a crescent moon high in the sky, the night was closed out by headliner Tim Baker (formerly of Hey Rosetta), joined onstage by his four-piece band. Alternating between guitar and piano, Tim played a dynamic set of material from both of his albums, including a beautiful rendition of “Lucky Few” from his 2022 aptly-titled album The Festival.
The 2023 Dragonboat Festival continues with races today and tomorrow, as well as another night of free concerts tonight, featuring Sister Swire, The Darcys, and headliner Bedouin Soundclash.
