The 2024 edition of the annual Tim Horton’s Dragonboat Festival kicked off on Friday night with a stellar lineup of all-Canadian talent.
Celtic rockers, The Hallions got things started with a fiddle-infused kickass set that had the early crowd on their feet.
Next up was Montreal punk band NOBRO (Kathryn McCaughey on bass/vocals, Karolane Carbonneau on guitars, Lisandre Bourdage on keys/percussion, and Sarah Dion on drums), who took no prisoners as they tore through a high energy set of compact punk rock songs.
Closing out the night were the headliners, Vancouver’s Rare Americans – one of the Juno Award’s Breakthrough Group of the Year nominees in 2023. Since their inception in 2018, they’ve been busy – to the tune of over 100 songs according to frontman James Priestner. The band’s set included Cats, Dogs and Rats, Milk Man and Run The World as well as some brand new material, as they brought the party vibe to the crowd at Mooney’s Bay.
