If there’s one play in this year’s Fringe that will make you feel suspended in time and holding your breath, it is certainly Weathering and Waiting.
This is a stunning piece about life and the tension between the things that carry or drown us. Three characters use metal rods shaped in a canoe that hangs from the ceiling. They spend the better part of the show using movement and facial expressions to convey emotion suspended in the air.

The fluidity of the movement on stage is mesmerizing. The strength that is displayed during this performance coupled with how graceful they actors are creates an emotionally charged tension in the room. All eyes are glued to the stage.
While no words are spoken through the entire show, this was a poignant metaphor for life and its seasons of struggle. This is a showstopper you do not want to miss.
Weathering and Waiting is playing at LabO from June 15–22. Tickets are $14 plus service fees at the Fringe box office (3rd floor, Arts Court, 2 Daly Avenue), and at the three satellite box offices (LabO in the Ottawa Art Gallery, Fringe Courtyard, 67 Nicholas St and La Nouvelle Scène). Five and ten Show Passes are also available. Visit the Ottawa Fringe Festival’s website for the show’s schedule and check out their online schedule here.
