There’s a bit of a country flavour to this year’s Bluesfest with Dixie Chicks, Zac Brown Band and others. You can clearly see where Jordan McIntosh takes his influence. Heck, by the looks of his photo above, he could play a young Johnny Cash (if they were to do another movie on the man in black). McIntosh is still in high school, but could be considered a veteran of the stage. He’s been singing from a young age. Wanting to imitate his older sister, who was also a singer, Jordan secured an easy victory at a 4th grade talent show.
Many of us might score a win in a talent show to bookend a short lived career … but not this young man. Some describe him as a country team heartthrob. and the themes he touches on in his music are akin to a male Taylor Swift. “My music offers a male perspective on what someone like Taylor Swift might write about,” he concludes. “This is something for the guys. A lot of male country artists tend to prefer singing about where they’re from, parties and the work day. Girls are the ones singing about relationships and the problems within them. I bring the male perspective to this kind of music.”
We touched base with the artist by email to find out a bit more about this male Taylor Swift…
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as new country. I am a huge fan of some country legends like Johnny Cash, Brooks & Dunn, and so on. I grew up listening to them. You can definitely hear their influence in my songs. Keeping in mind, that the majority of my fans are young, I try to keep my music fun and exciting.
How long have you been playing music, and how has your sound evolved in that time?
I have been singing since the age of 8, and recently picked up the guitar about 3 years ago. My sound has evolved quite a bit. When I was younger I would sing songs by artists like Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars. Now that my voice (and myself) have matured, I look to bands like Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts, and Toby Keith. My sound has definitely matured over time.
What are you hoping to get out of your Bluesfest performance? Fans, adoration, festival experience etc.
I am hoping to get some more experience on stage and possibly gain some new fans along the way. I’m just looking to have a great time playing music!
Are there any other bands on the bill you’re excited to see?
I am very excited for Zac Brown Band. I will definitely be going to see their show.
Bonus silly question: What’s your ultimate summer song?
My ultimate summer song is Boys’ Round Here by Blake Shelton.
