Capital Grass and The No Men are practically a local institution – they’ve played all of the classic Ottawa venues, and bring out crowds wherever they go. They’ll be at the Bluesfest Blacksheep stage this Saturday, a perfect chance to catch them live in the act. We got them to answer a few questions, and give us a sneak peek to their boxers or briefs revelation happening live at the show…
How would you describe your sound?
Garage Folk – our latest songs are heavily influenced by old-time clawhammer banjo tunes, and we combine that with alt-country and garage rock.
When did the band start playing together?
Matt & Wayne formed the band in Guelph, Ontario, back in 2006. We moved back to Ottawa in 2009 and added D’Arcy on drums and Mike on bass.
What are you hoping to get out of your Bluesfest performance? Fans, adoration, festival experience etc.
In the short term, we hope to gain new fans and hopefully a bit of momentum and buzz as we’re working towards releasing our second album. In the long term, we hope it leads to playing festivals and interesting gigs all around Ontario.
Are there any other bands on the bill you are excited to see?
Old Man Luedecke, Weezer and Neko Case.
Boxers or briefs? (This is our silly question – have fun with it!)
We’ll reveal the answer to this question during our set via secret code on Saturday July 13th at 3:30pm at the Blacksheep Stage. Hint: the cypher is “d=rosewood”.
