We kicked the show off this week with a chat with Cheryl Cadrin, Ralph Schipper, and Rick Karayanis of Rock ‘n’ Root Farm. Rock ‘n’ Root, along with several other farmers and artisan food producers, were surprised to hear about the cancellation of the Vanier Farmers’ Market last week. The group had been selling at the market for years, and were busily preparing for the launch of the market in mid-July when the got the news. We had a chat about how this will affect their farm.
Next, editor Ryan Saxby-Hill gave us his thoughts on El Camino, a new taco-heavy restaurant that was opened recently by local chef-celeb Matt Carmichael. Hint: it’s good. Very good!
And finally, we had a chat with Erika Nelson, an Apt613 contributor who moderated our online beer panel last week. She had quite a few thoughts about the panel, most of which surround the explosive growth of the local craft beer scene in recent years.
On the cusp of Bluesfest, we featured a whole slew of local musicians who are playing during the festival. Here are the tracks we played on the show this week:
David Byrne and St. Vincent – The Forest Awakes (They played the Ottawa Jazz Festival, not Bluesfest, but we like them because of this!)
Her Harbour – Petunia
Jack Pine and the Fire – Gold Silver Bronze
DJ Acro – Dangerous (Busta Rhymes remix)
City Fidelia – Just Gimme Some Time
Roberta Bondar – Salt
Fevers – Dance Cry Dance
