Unsatisfaction is a one woman stand-up comedy performance, covering the trials and tribulations of aging as a woman in the modern world. With a host of unique life experiences, Sarah Boston recounts her sometimes tragic, always humourous, journey through womanhood.

Staged in the DARC Microcinema, Unsatisfaction offers a very intimate setting. Boston is clearly very experienced (this is her second fringe performance, her first at the Guelph Fringe Festival in 2024) and personable, which makes even the smallest of audiences feel comfortable. As a veteran of the Ottawa comedy scene, this local talent keeps audiences engaged with her relatable storytelling.

Her comedy is supported by her life as a veterinary cancer surgeon as well as her story as a cancer survivor, where she expands on life in and out of the medical profession. Though I’m not an aging woman who needs to practice kegels, I still found the show entertaining and definitely kept me laughing.

If you are a fan of darker humour then Boston’s show is definitely one to check out at this year’s festival. But don’t let that stop you if dark humour isn’t your cup of tea. Boston’s show still has something for everyone.

All I know for sure after seeing this performance: I really have to buy a Perifit.

Unsatisfaction is playing at DARC Microcinema from June 12–22. Tickets are $14 plus service fees at the Fringe box office (3rd floor, Arts Court, 2 Daly Avenue), and at the three satellite box offices (LabO in the Ottawa Art Gallery, Fringe Courtyard, 67 Nicholas St and La Nouvelle Scène). Five and ten Show Passes are also available. Visit the Ottawa Fringe Festival’s website for the show’s schedule and check out their online schedule here.
