Szeretlek: A Hungarian Love Story
by The Grand Salto Theatre

With a combination of choreography, mask, and lovely historical story, The Grand Salto Theatre brought this show to life in so many ways. Flipping through many very definitive characters and few but very well-used props, they tell the spectacular and true story of Zita’s grandmother and the love of her life – and their dramas, narrated both by Myque and Zita. They trade roles frequently, but the characters are well portrayed and very easy to tell from one another.
The show was filled with dance, quirky anecdotes and some audience participation (but not overly so). A lovely dive into Hungarian culture, it featured Hungarian music, some of the language, dance and song. The show was complete with voice recordings from when the artist interviewed her grandmother – which I loved, I thought it was a fantastic way to add to the story – and some lovely lighting and technical aspects that were very well executed.
I really enjoyed this show – it’s family-friendly, funny (I laughed out loud several time) and adorable. Plenty of fun, great historical aspects and all around a lovely way to spend an hour at the Fringe!
