February — and Black history month — isn’t over yet! Check out these events happening in the next few weeks to celebrate:

Special Display: Shaping Canada’s History
Special Exhibitions Corridor at the Canadian Museum of History, 100 Laurier St., Gatineau
On until Feb. 24

Learn more about the Black Canadians who have helped shape Canada’s history and enrich its culture, through a new special display. Featuring a curated selection of objects from the museum’s collection, the four display cases tell powerful stories of creativity, determination, perseverance and resistance that have made Canada more inclusive, diverse, culturally vibrant, and internationally renowned.

Algonquin College Dance & Rap Battle

Feb. 21 at 8pm

The African Student Society and the For The Culture (Afro-Caribbean) Dance Club at Algonquin College is hosting a dance and rap battle on Feb. 21 at 8pm. Join them for a night of artistry, talent, creativity, and cultural celebration.

An Evening With Bruny Surin, Hosted by Meeker Guerrier
Canadian Museum of History, 100 Laurier St., Gatineau
Feb. 26 at 7pm

Olympian Bruny Surin and sports commentator Meeker Guerrier join together for a conversation looking at Surin’s life as a track star, his post-competition business ventures and his experiences as Chef de Mission at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Tickets can be found here, starting at $10 for youth, students and seniors, and $15 for adults.

Ottawa Loves Tennis – Second Annual Black History Month Afro Caribbean Indoor Tennis Tournament
Rideau Sports Centre, 1 Donald St.
Feb. 22-23 from 11am-6pm daily

Join Ottawa Loves Tennis to celebrate the vibrant talent and cultural heritage of the Afro Caribbean community here in Ottawa with an indoor tennis tournament.

This exciting event brings together amateur tennis enthusiasts and budding junior players from across the region, providing a platform to showcase their talent and passion for the sport. Join just to spectate or to participate!

In The Black Comedy Show
Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd., Orléans
March 21 at 7pm

In the Black is a stand-up comedy showcase promising an evening of hilarious storytelling, and a unique perspective on Black experiences delivered with a distinctly Canadian twist. The evening will spotlight some of Canada’s most talented emerging Black comedians, including Dawn Xanklin, Statuesse and more. From the Yukon to the Prairies to Ontario to Québec, find out what it means to be funny, talented and Black in the Great White North. This one’s still a few weeks away, but it’s bound to be a great night and a reminder that Black history matters even after the month is over. Tickets start at $33.
