It’s election time in Ottawa! Local candidates were out and about last week, making the case for their various platforms, and now it’s up to us to elect the folks we think can deliver for Ottawa. We’ve been surveying candidates on the tough issues (their favourite lunch spot, beavertail, happy hour, etc.) and you can find the results for Nepean here, Ottawa South here, Ottawa-Centre here, Ottawa-Vanier here, and a bunch of other folks from random ridings here. Our friends over at OpenFile Ottawa have also done lots of interesting (and more serious) coverage here.
But wherever you’re getting your information, it’s important to know that you’re entitled to vote. You don’t need to pre-register. Just show up at your polling station with a photo ID and some mail and they should let you cast a ballot.
In non-election news, the National Art Gallery is giving us a chance to get some additional background on one of the city’s most recognizable landmark: “Maman,” the giant spider who sits right outside. The gallery has opened a show looking at the life and work of Lousie Bourgeois, the artist who designed her.
Some residents of Ottawa have a good excuse for dirty cars and slow-growing lawns. Due to difficulty with a water main on Woodroffe Ave., folks in Barrhaven, Riverside South and Manotick are prohibited from outdoor water use.
Local foodies are celebrating the opening of the Lansdowne farmers market this weekend. Despite a tough growing season o far, the opening of the market is a great reminder (along with the 20-degree-plus weather we got this weekend) that summer is just around the corner.
