Another beautiful winter weekend, folks. Head out sledding on some of the best hills, or strap on your skates for a bit of a glide. Or, stay cozy inside with any of these exciting activities…

Kick off your weekend tonight with Tara Holloway at the Lunenburg Pub, playing her trusty guitar. Toronto indie rocker Brendan Canning stops by Zaphod’s on Friday, playing the early stage with The Gallop. Kitchen Party guarantees to be an awesome sweaty dance-a-thon, as always. The Tiny House Mansion Concert series is back, this time celebrating Joseph Mieto’s new album and also showing off the folk skills of Amanda Cottreau. The Strumbellas bring their indie/folk sounds to town on Saturday night, while out in Almonte you can catch the jazzy sounds of the Peter Liu Trio. Want more of an alt-jazz sound? Catch the Kite Trio at Gigspace. Mugshots hosts the first Fryquency of the year, featuring Omhouse, King’s Quest and The Walls are Blonde.

Sunday, you’ve got your choice of eclectic music events, with The Banjo Apocalyse Crinoline Troubadours at the Mercury Lounge, or head to the Black Sheep for their World Music Extravaganza.

In/Words Magazine is hosting a showcase night of Shivers on Friday at Pressed, featuring some of their best literary stars. Adrian Harewood chats with author Ishmael Beah about his new novel, Radiance of Tomorrow, on Sunday afternoon.

Need to keep those antsy kids occupied? Send them off to the Code for Kids event this Saturday – they’ll learn all about circuits and get a Snap Circuits kit all of their own. Who knows – you might have a budding electrician on your hands!

If you’re the one in need of a new crafty project, learn how to make marbled paper down at the Routhier Community Centre with some expert Ottawa bookbinders.

In the art world, we have Tavi Weisz’s show One Last Time closing party and performance this Saturday at the Karsh-Masson Gallery, and David Barbour giving an artist talk on his latest show Home down at City Hall.

The canal isn’t great for all kinds of skating – if you’re more of the skateboard type, join the guys from Antique Skate Shop on the #YOLOBus and hang out at a skate park in Montreal on Saturday afternoon.
