Back to another lovely summer weekend – time to fill up that schedule!

Friday night, get all kitted up in your favourite Star Wars themed costume and head to the Museum of Nature for Nature Nocturne – don’t worry about doing your hair, though, because they’ll have Princess Leia stylists on hand.

Tonight, Babylon hosts Boombox Diaries, where DJs and musical guests will channel their favourite tunes through the classic portable music device. On Friday night White Ribs and Teenage Kicks bring some punk rock to town, Erik Lind and the Orchard teams up with the Medhi Cayenne Club, and Vibonics hip hop crew stops by on their latest tour. Also on Friday, Raw Sugar will host A Certain Sort of Mo’Diggity – a crazy dance party certain to shake up the neighbourhood. Down at Mugshots on Saturday, it’s another edition of Partyy, this time with a Soviet theme. Saturday night will also bring The String Masons to Pressed.

There are two special farmer’s market events happening on Saturday: down at the Preston Market, bring along your e-waste (real live waste, not the trash bin in your email) – as part of their Environmental Day, EnviroCentre will be collecting all of those used electronics that aren’t supposed to end up in the dump. Just up the hill – Nanny Goat Hill, to be exact – there will be a Good Food Market, a not-for-profit initiative that aims to make good produce affordable and accessible.

While Pride doesn’t start until next week, there are a ton of pre-Pride events happening this weekend. Bourbon and Spice Burlesque is hosting a party down at Mercury Lounge, and down at SAW Gallery, you can catch a drag show combined with a showing of Repo!: The Genetic Opera. There’s also a pageant, a boat cruise, films and a pool night to get you psyched up for the festival’s kick off next week.

In other burlesque news, Capital Tease pits Rock against Pop in a musical burlesque showdown at Barrymore’s this Saturday night.

Puppets will descend on Almonte this weekend for the Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival – there’s fun for the whole family, and then some fun for not everyone in the family (naughty cabaret puppets, anyone?).

And the Centretown Movies outdoor film festival continues with Jiro Dreams of Sushi on Friday, and Ghostbusters on Saturday. Bring your popcorn and a blanket and settle in for the evening!
