Another weekend has arrived, here in Ottawa and we at Apt613 have you covered. Here is this week’s edition of the Weekend Roundup – full of tons of great ideas on how to spend your weekend!
For all those a fan of a good craft fair, this weekend has plenty. The Ottawa Maker’s Market: Holiday Night Market is happening tonight, at Orange Gallery. Come meet 14 different artists and makers from Ottawa, up close and personal. Entry is pay what you can and 50% of the door proceeds help support Operation Come Home. Did I mention there will be Beau’s?
Idle Hands Art, Craft and Vintage Sale is back again this Sunday at St. Anthony’s Banquet Hall in Little Italy. There is a 4$ admission fee, part of which goes to For Pivots Sake and Girls Only Skateboarding Sessions 613. All kinds of incredible local artists will be in attendance, including Stefan Thompson, Daniel Martelock, & N-Product.
While on the topic of craft fairs, be sure to take a trip over to the Canadian Museum of History this weekend, for the Museum’s Christmas Market. Over 75 different vendors will be selling an amazing variety of things; from jewelry, to cheeses, from bath products, to breads.

Sketch, the 11th edition of SAW Gallery’s holiday fundraiser happening at SAW this Friday night. The night will feature performances by local DJs Jason Skilz and Adam Saikaley with a special performance by folk-pop band Curly Strings from Estonia. There will also be a silent auction and art sale with a ton of artists participating. And, while we’re at it, Centretown Community Garage Sale is this Saturday at Jack Purcell Community Centre.
We’ve also got music and dance aplenty this weekend. Thursday night is Reggae Night at Oz Kafe, with DJ Zattar of Timekode, alongside Jas Nasty, Ben Armstrong, and Chris International. Double Barrel celebrates 6 years this Friday at Mercury Lounge. Skratch Bastid joins DJ Magnificent on the decks and Leroy, from Detroit Soul Food Canada, will be on site with his infamous chicken and waffles on a stick.
Also this Friday night is Nature Nocturne – Winter Wonderland. Check out the exhibits, dance, and have a couple drinks. Spins and Needles bringing out local DJs Jason Skilz and Kurt Yates playing techno/house.
Saturday night at LIVE on Elgin there is a fundraiser for The Daily Grind, Middle East Bakery, Shiraz Market, A Dark Cloud Tattoo and the building residents. Tomorrow’s Grind: A Collective Showcase – Hip Hop Edition will feature performances by Alex Silas & the Subterraneans, Eddie Quotez, Aron the Alien, Brown & Wilsin, Yusso, and Bvstvrds.
There are also seven different films playing this weekend as a part of the European Union Film Festival, which is happening throughout the entire weekend at the Bytowne Cinema.
The cold weather has arrived, but there is plenty to do this weekend, if you’re willing to go outdoors! With so many great things going on, we can guarantee you’ll have a great time!

Vendredi soir le groupe ottavien réputé pour faire danser les foules The Peptides sera en spectacle au Live on Elgin. Il sera accompagné pour cette soirée festive de duo qu’on aime beaucoup, Moonfruits.
Ce même soir, le Château Cyr prépare une soirée multidisciplinaire mêlant arts visuels, slam et poésie. Plusieurs artistes sont invités dont le band HellHeart duquel fait partie Daniel Groleau Landry, poète-auteur-compositeur-
Pour ceux qui peuvent se diviser en quatre, sachez que le band Patrick Lac & South Heaven s’en revient par chez nous pour lancer ici son premier album Streets of Life qui s’avère à la fois, indie-rock et souvent même planant! Nous recommandons fortement cette soirée qui se déroulera au Troquet.
Le CNA nous présente deux événements intéressants ce weekend. Vendredi soir déplacez-vous à la Quatrième salle du CNA pour voir le spectacle Les mousquetaires du slam avec D-Track, David Goudreault, Guy Perreault et Annie Saint-Jean.
Samedi, il ne faudrait pas manquer la venue de Safia Nolin qui viendra remplir la Quatrième salle du CNA de son talent unique et authentique. Ce sera l’occasion d’entendre les chansons de son premier album Limoilou en version live!
Samedi, le Art Battle no 332 aura lieu au Théâtre de la cour des Arts. Il s’agit d’un événement à vivre et revivre plusieurs fois dans sa vie : chaque fois, douze artistes locaux produisent des toiles avec la pression de les réaliser en seulement 20 minutes. Impressionnant, ça oui!
Jusqu’au 6 décembre, exposition annuelle Figureworks se déroule au Centre d’arts St-Brigid’s. Chaque année, cette expo permet de célébrer l’art de représenter l’être humain à travers une panoplie de techniques d’art visuel : peintures, sculptures, photographies, etc. Il s’agit d’une occasion exclusive de s’en mettre plein la vue et l’esprit.
Du 27 au 29 novembre, le 13e rendez-vous des amateurs de bandes-dessinées se tiendra à la Maison du citoyen à Gatineau. Plusieurs artistes de renom seront présents, dont l’invité d’honneur Michel Rabagliati (la série BD Paul). La région a de quoi célébrer chaque année l’univers de la BD : l’École multidisciplinaire de l’Image (ÉMI) hébergée par l’UQO est le seul programme qui offre une formation de ce genre au Canada!
Présentement en cours, le Festival du film de l’Union européenne propose 28 films issus d’autant de pays qui ont été sélectionnés avec attention afin de fournir une programmation unique et prestigieuse. Ce festival est présenté par l’Institut canadien du film et toutes les projections ont lieu au cinéma ByTowne.
