The final weekend of August is upon us and, while summer might be winding down, there is still a lot to do around town to enjoy what is left of the season.

It’s the final weekend of the regular season for the Titans with back-to-back-to-back games against the Tri-City ValleyCats. There will be fireworks both Friday and Saturday night at the ballpark to mark the occasion, and a bouncy castle for the kiddos pre-game on Sunday.
The Ottawa Serbian Festival takes place this Saturday through Monday at the Prime Venue Banquet and Reception Hall on Prince of Wales. This free festival will feature traditional music and dance performances, as well as some delicious Serbian food.
The first ever YOWFEST takes place this weekend at Lansdowne Park. The musical lineup, which is split between English and French or International artists, features more than a dozen performances each day. For more information, check out our blog post about the event!
The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival will also be taking place at Parc de la Baie in Gatineau. Gaze at the sky filled with hot air balloons, or take part in their amusement activities all weekend.
Thursday
Lansdowne Park Movie Nights will be screening Fifth Element, their final film of the summer this Thursday night in the South Court. If there is rain in the forecast, don’t sweat, they will move the movie indoors to the Aberdeen Pavilion.
The Festival of Wales presents WelshFest this Thursday from 4pm to 7pm on Sparks Street. This free concert will feature musical performances and Welsh clog and folk dancing.
Friday
Budding astronomers will want to head to the parking lot of the Carp Branch of the Ottawa Public Library this Friday eve for the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Ottawa’s free Star Party. This is a great opportunity to be shown the sky by those who know what they are looking at – and who have the tools to do so. Be sure to check out their handy Visitor’s Guide before going, so that you can ensure the best experience for all.

DJ Magnificent is bringing Discolab to Metcalfe Plaza this Friday at 5pm. He will be spinning only the best disco tracks on vinyl all night long.
Capital Pop-Up Cinema will be screening the classic film Annie on Sparks Street, between Metcalfe and O’Connor. Bring your lawn chairs and arrive early to the 7:30pm showtime to secure the best spot. Popcorn will be available for purchase at the event, but feel free to bring along your favourite theatre snacks too.
Join the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on Friday morning to hear from two LGBT Purge survivors “as they share their personal stories of service, resilience, and advocacy.” The presentation will be followed by a question period and a tour of the LGBT Purge exhibit.
