Happy long weekend friends! It’s finally colling down enough to take in the best of what the city has to offer in the summertime, and we’ve got you covered. Whether it’s theatre, live music, sports or cinema our beautiful city has it. There will be road closures Friday and Saturday due to the Ironman, so plan your routes accordingly!

All Weekend

The Ottawa Little Theatre is finishing up their run of Always a Bridesmaid with three shows this weekend Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Read our review of the delightful farcical comedy here.

Kanata Theatre’s 10 Minute Play Festival is taking place this weekend Friday to Sunday at the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Take in seven different 10 Minute Plays by local playwrights and support local arts with your Pay-What-You-Can admission. Read our Q&A about the event here.

The Big Bounce Canada is an enormous inflatable landscape for all ages, and apparently the biggest bouncy castle in the world! Check it out at the RA Centre this weekend for all ages, toddler, or adults only sessions based on your bouncy needs.  Tickets for adults start at $49.

Thursday

Join the Ottawa Titans Field of Dreams Foundation for a Movie Night on the Field. Tickets are $10 for the screening of Field of Dreams to support the foundation. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, but don’t bring any outside food!

The Ottawa RedBlacks are in town for a high pressure Thursday match up against the second place Calgary Stampeders. Can our boys get their second win of the season?

The Urban Art Collective continues their Hintonburg Night Market on Somerset with vendors in their parking lot from 4-9pm. Browse the local wares and try a cool bevvy from the booj while you’re there.

Friday

Rugby is taking over the city on Friday, as the Canadian Women World Cup Team takes on the USA in their only Canadian friendly before heading to the UK for the World Cup in a few weeks. Canada is ranked #2 in the world, and have a very serious chance of taking home gold this year. The women are widely expected to handily beat the Americans, and who doesn’t want to see that? They are trying to set a North American attendance record, and tickets are still available online.

Capital Pop-Up Cinema is back downtown on Sparks street for Say Anything Friday at 8:30pm. Bring your own chair, and pick up some popcorn at the concession and enjoy the free screening.

The coolest party in town will be at City at Night with the TIMEKODE Tapes Vol.1 Release Party starting at 10pm celebrating the release of the very first TIMEKODE TAPES — a new series of seasonal beat tapes from the TK crew, featuring original productions, remixes, and bootlegs. Early bird tickets are $15 online, and you know that they’ll sell out.

Saturday

Saturday is the day for markets! For all good things check out the Beechwood Market at New Edinburgh Park, Cumberland Farmers’ Market at the Cumberland Arena, the the Wakefield Market and the Carp Famers’ Market. 613flea is filling the outdoor plaza at the Aberdeen Pavilion again with artists, vendors, food and vintage sellers from 10-4 on Saturday.

Every Saturday at 1pm you can find live music outdoors for the Kemptville Street Piano Outdoor Concert Series. Check out the vibes on the North Grenville Public Library terrace.

The Ottawa BlackJacks are in a high pressure push for the playoffs, and if you haven’t been to a game yet, head to TD Place Arena on Saturday at 2pm for a great show. Tickets start at $35.

Les Grands Feux du Casino Lac-Leamy are back, and if you missed the opening show last night, be sure to plan your spot for the event on Saturday. Tickets for the full experience at the Museum of History are still available, or catch them from the Tavern on the Hill, or your favourite nearest perch over the river.

Head to Urban Art Collective for the vernissage of Overpass: reframing urban spaces, a three artist show that explores the layered experiences of the city as a concept. The show runs from August 2-30, and the vernissage is 6-9pm, and free to attend with pre registration.

Sunday

Our first place Atlético Ottawa will take to the pitch on Sunday for a game against York United in a rousing 4pm game. The boys in stripes are on a real tear, so this one might sell out!

Saturday and Sunday, the Ottawa Mystic Market is at Next Door Ottawa on Gladstone from 11-5. This is the place for tarot and oracle readings, herbal magic, blessings and local crafts and vendors.

*~*Bonus Monday*~*

If you’re not sure what is open or closed on Monday, check out this handy dandy list.

Monday is the Civic Holiday, and here in Ottawa we like to call it Colonel By Day. If you have the day off, it’s a great opportunity to take in more sunshine, and maybe head down to the Bytown Museum for their annual Colonel By Day celebrations including music, crafts, and costumes.
