Things have been hot here in Ottawa as of late, but the cool down is coming, just in time for the weekend. There is so much going on around town, so get out and enjoy yourself!

All Weekend

Ottawa Bluesfest wraps up this weekend at LeBreton Flats. Kardinal Offishall and Sean Paul are taking the stage on Thursday, Green Day rocking out on Friday, and BADBADNOTGOOD finishing off the festival on Sunday.

The Ottawa Lebanese Festival is being held this Thursday through Sunday at St. Elias Centre. With Mooney’s Bay just across the street, you can head to the beach for a swim and then make your way over for some delicious Middle Eastern food, live music performances, dancing, DJs, a watermelon eating contest, and a raffle.

Thursday

Head over to the National Arts Centre this Thursday for Symphonic Waves Beethoven for Everyone. Experience the incredible Canadian pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko as he joins the NAC Orchestra for an unforgettable musical experience. Tickets are $20.

The Hintonburg Night Market takes over the parking lot of the Urban Art Collective this Thursday, from 4pm to 9pm. Not only will there be a market of great vendors, but also Indian inspired comfort food by Kevin in Kitchen, drinks crafted by The Booj, music by DJ Faust, and an art show happening at the same time inside.

Same night, different location! The ByWard Night Market is taking place on William Street. Here you can peruse the works of over 25 different vendors.

Another installment of Switched on Synths is happening this Thursday at House of Targ. This month’s installment features The Foreign Resort, all the way from Denmark; Girlfriends & Boyfriends of Toronto; and Ottawa’s synthpop band The Retrospects. If that were not a great enough lineup on its own, DJ Jas Nasty will be spinning vinyl before, between, and after.

Friday

Timekode’s final dance party of the series, before they break for summer holidays, is going down this Friday eve at D’Afrique. Your TK regulars, Seiiizi, Memetic, and Trevor Walker will be joined by guest DJ Magnificent. Tickets can be purchased online for $20, or will be available for $25 at the door.

The opening of art show “Take what you have, make what you need” takes place at De Montigny Contemporary gallery on Bank Street. Local artists Claudia Gutierrez and Guillermo Trejo “embrace imperfect processes such as stitching, dyeing, cutting, and printing as a means of resisting systems rooted in standardization, industrial precision, and colonial modernism.”

Capital Pop-Up Cinema presents The Parent Trap in the parking lot of the Churchill Seniors Centre in Westboro on Friday. The movie starts at 8:45pm, but you’ll want to arrive early with your camping chairs to get a good spot. No camping chairs of your own? No problem – you can rent one for 5$. Popcorn, water, and sweets are also available for purchase.

Saturday

The Thai Street Food Festival is taking place both in and around the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne this Saturday. In addition to over a dozen food vendors, there will also be Thai dance, martial arts, and massage performances, as well as a Thai market. While you are at Lansdowne, why not also check out 613Flea, being held from 10am to 4pm?
