Even those of us who aren’t big fans of winter are happy to see the canal opened, which means we can officially enjoy winter! Details below on how to check canal skate conditions and openings/closures, but also lots of indoor activities if you need to warm up.

All weekend

Head to the NAC for the much-lauded Salesman in China, based on the memoirs of Death of a Salesman author Arthur Miller and Chinese theatre icon Ying Ruocheng after they produced the play together in China in the 1980s.

Saturday and Sunday you can check out VPOP at Next Door! for all your vintage, thrift and retro needs.

Saturday and Sunday the Ottawa Pops Orchestra will be doing a show of The Music of Hans Zimmer at Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre.

Be sure to check conditions and opening/closure notices before you head out, but the canal provides lots of opportunities for great outdoor activities (even if it’s just eating a Beaver Tail!)

Thursday

The Sens take on The Washington Capitals at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Head to House of TARG for Switched-On Synths: Silent EM (NYC ColdWave) + Infinity’s Astrum + The Seance for a 19+ show.

The opening of the 12 X 2 group exhibition takes place at Gallerie St-Laurent + Hill and will run until Feb 4.

Friday

Overflow Brewing Company is hosting an Art Battle featuring 12 artists, three rounds with one champion as they transform blank canvasses into incredible art in front of your eyes.

Learn to Swing Dance – no partner or experience required – with the Ottawa Swing Dance Society.

Rather skate to some tunes? Check out the ABBA Glow Skate Night in the market.

Saturday

DJ KidGorgeous brings A Fearless Dance Floor Taylor Swift Dance Party to Overflow Brewing Company.

Enjoy a guided snowshoe hike in Gatineau Park and learn how to spot animal tracks.

If Lord of the Rings is more your style, there’s a showing of The Fellowship of the Ring with a live orchestra at TD Place.

Head over to the NAC for Classic Albums Live: Prince – Purple Rain and get your groove on.

Sunday

The Soca Kitchen is hosting its first Peruvian buffet of the year – an all-you-can-eat feast with delicious Peruvian flavours.

After, you can head to House of TARG’s Free-Play Sunday After Dark for your pinball (and perogies!) fix.

Ottawa South Eco-Action Network (OSEAN) is hosting a community mending circle. This is a chance to learn how to repair or hem your favourite garments and get help with simple sewing projects and sewing machines.
